The completed blouse!!!

When I started this blog, I expected to be making something pretty much every weekend so the blog would be updated at least once or fortnight, if not once a week!  I think I was dreaming if I thought I’d have the time to do that.  Life just gets in the way a bit, and I probably spend too much time looking at craft magazines or on the internet dreaming of the things I could make, rather than getting off my arse to actually make something.  I’m quite good at procrastinating!

But a new post is here and new photos to add of Niamh’s completed Oliver + S Family Reunion blouse.

I bought some fantastic buttons from my trip to Nottingham about a month ago at John Lewis that I think compliment the back of the blouse perfectly.  They are different polka dot buttons in each colour found in the blouse.  There weren’t many buttons to choose from, so I was amazed I found them, especially getting the perfect shade of blue.  I’ve never made button holes before either, so they took A LOT of testing on my sewing machine on some scrap material first, but I’m pretty pleased at how they turned out:-

I decided to stick to to plain white buttons for the front of the blouse, the instructions said to use 4 small buttons to make a square shape, but I thought I’d use two larger buttons instead:-

Below are some action shots of Niamh, testing out the blouse and matching rompers I made previously.  She wore the outfit for the first time at a softplay centre on Monday with some other babies from a mummies group I go to.  I thought it would be a good test to see if the garments survive my stitching, which they did!!  Niamh got a lot of compliments too which was fantastic (this was before people knew it was hand-made by me too, so they weren’t just being polite!!).  Apologies for some of the blurry photos, it was difficult to take a photo of her keeping still!! I think she liked the soft play centre…

The next job I was supposed to make was a cover for my KitchenAid mixer.  I did get to start it last weekend, however, when it came to cutting out the material, I realised I didn’t buy anywhere near enough, so that had to be put on hold.  Hopefully it will get done this weekend with some other material I have since bought!!??

  1. Hi Rachel the outfit is absolutely gorgeous. You have done a great job, I hope to get to and make her something nice one day if I can get at the sewing machine. Well done!!! Love Mum

  2. Good work. So much more satisfying seeing your bubs in something you made with your own hands.
